"The Da Vinci Code" and "The Gospel of Judas"
The Same Old Gnostic Heresies!
In May of 2006, 'Hellishwood' and the 'National Evolutionary Society,' better known as Hollywood and the National Geographic Society unveiled their latest attacks on the Bible - the word of God.
The Da Vinci Code, a film directed by Ron Howard, an internationally renowned director and former child star of the Andy Griffith Show aired May 19th, 2006 in which supposedly new information about God, Jesus and the Bible will come to light. 'Poor God,' His word has been hidden for about 1700 years, and it took Hollywood, Dan Brown, and Ron Howard to bring it back to light. Ron Howard, the director, has had fairly good success in the filmmaking industry, but in this movie that he directs, he appears to agree with the general anti-God philosophy of Hollywood. Of course, National Geographic's bias against the word of God has long been understood by those of us who believe the Bible. These two productions are just the latest in the world's attempt to discredit the word of God. Dan Brown's book and movie are probably more strident in their attacks than NGS' attempt, but make no bones about it, they are both just more of the problem which first appeared in the Garden almost six thousand years ago.

What do these two productions have in common? They are both reviving Gnostic heresies that have been debunked and rejected by real Christians for over 1600 years. Wise and well educated people have believed God's word for many thousands of years. If unbelievers would leave their cocoon of disbelief they could find out that great thinkers and minds of all ages were men and women who believed and do believe God's revelation to man - His word. Anyone who honestly seeks to find out the truth of God's word will be directed by Him into all truth
John 17:17 - Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
The trustworthiness and absolute reliability of Scripture is something that no honest person could deny. George Washington, Dr. Lancelot Andrews, Dr. Robert Dick Wilson, Daniel Webster, Abraham Lincoln, Werner Von Braun, George Washington Carver, , Ronald Reagan, Lord Kelvin, Louis Pasteur, Henry Morris, Pierre Grasse, Sir Isaac Newton, Benjamin Franklin, James Watt, Sir Fred Hoyle, and countless other men and women have believed God's word for generations.
However, as we well know, over the years there have been many well educated, intelligent men and women who did not believe God's word, mainly because their biases kept them from studying it out honestly. Even in the early years after the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ there were those who would not believe. In spite of the eyewitness testimonies, in spite of the first hand evidence, in spite of the lives of those who believed, some did not believe. Some of those became known as Gnostics. These seekers of knowledge, or Gnostics as they came to be known, began to write spurious gospels. The Gospels of Judas, Barnabas, Phillip, and many others popped up and were rejected by the Bible believers of those days. The Apostle Paul recognized these heretics and in the letter to the Colossian Church warned them about their coming heresies.
Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
Over the past few years the attacks seem to be growing, or it may be, that in this age of the 'information superhighway' we have just been made more aware of these attacks. This two pronged attack on the word of God has been augmented by television programs that further amplify their venomous hatred of God.
Why have these releases been so successful? One reason is that the society in which we live is really starved for the truth and will seek truth where they think it can be found. The schools of our world have become bastions of social engineering rather than teachers of truth. Oh, the truths of math, grammar, history, etc., are listed as possible subjects to be taught, but the subjects of self-esteem, diversity, race relations, sex education, and social injustice are promoted to eager young minds who learn their lessons well to the detriment of society and morality.
Jeremiah 7:28 But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the LORD their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.
However, that is to be expected from an organization (schools) that has divorced itself from the only reliable source of truth, the Bible. But, what has happened to the Church? It should be preaching and teaching God's word and influencing society in the right direction. It seems as if the Church no longer has any effect upon our society. Why? Maybe the Church has divorced itself from the Bible as well as schools? Schools that were established to teach and preach the absolute truths of God's word are now nothing more than hotbeds of social garbage. Harvard, Yale, Brown, Princeton used to be powerful tools to teach young men who were 'called to preach' the 'way of truth.' Years ago we had churches all across America whose pulpits were filled with courageous men who boldly proclaimed God's word without compromise. They followed the great Apostle Paul and his admonitions such as;
2 Timothy 4:2 - Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
Even unbelievers would have recognized the lies, and blatherskites such as Dan Brown would not have found such a willing audience, because Biblically well informed people would have instantly recognized the lies and innuendos for what they are- emanations from mouth of the Devil who is, "…a liar and the father of it."
When someone such as Dan Brown states that, "almost everything our fathers taught us about Christ is false", people would reject his words and his lamentable attempts to cast doubt upon God's words. Mr. Brown's errors and lies are prevalent throughout his book, and they are further amplified by the movie. Just a short list of outright lies:
These and all of the rest of his 'facts' are not facts at all, but lies or errors which are so blatantly false and so easily disproved that you wonder how Doubleday Publishers could involve themselves in this deception.
- The New Testament is false testimony.
- No one before the Council of Nicea believed that Jesus Christ was divine.
- Jesus was secretly married to Mary Magdalene and had children by her.
- Christianity has a pagan religious basis.
These efforts by men and women dedicated to overthrowing our belief in the Bible should be seen for what they are and rejected outright. Christians should stand up for the great truths of real Christianity and not fall for the siren song of unbelief. The God of the Bible is alive. Dan Brown's god is not worth following. He is dead and unable to save. Thank God for our living Saviour, Jesus Christ the Lord. He alone can save.
Hebrews 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
The pagan gods of 'The Gospel of Judas' and 'The Da Vinci Code' are espousing nothing more than the same old Gnostics heresies which Satan has been promoting from the beginning.
Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
True Christians reject them without hesitation. Don't let these attacks dissuade you from trusting Jesus Christ and His absolutely reliable Book - the Bible. If you have never been born again, trust the risen Lord today and be saved.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
